Uganda has seen increased rates of HIV/AIDS in rural fishing villages such as Lugala and places of leisure and recreation like this pool hall have become popular education and testing centers for AIDS and garnering awareness about the disease. Spaces like this are popular for these men, who work in the very early hours of the morning and have most of the day to idle.

A HIV+ boy waits for ART treatmen. FOC-REV Ministries’ Lumino Health Center serves Lumino and neighboring sub-counties. The Level III Center offers general inpatient services for local endemic illnesses, ART treatment, minor surgical care including male circumcision, maternity health services including deliveries and HIV counseling and testing (facility based and outreach). The center has improved access to health care immensely; prior to its opening in 2008 local communities would have to travel very far to receive any medical attention.
